Pressestimmen zu Sonhos de Peixe

Premier film formidable de Kirill Mikhanovsky, s'immerge dans un village de pêcheurs... Hymne à la dignité et à la noblesse des pêcheurs à travers une histoire d'amour impossible, Sonhos de Peixe est traversé par des moments de grâce absolue. Et si les acteurs, tous amateurs trouvés sur le lieu de tournage, le village de Baia Formosa, sont pour beaucoup dans cette beauté, leur réalisateur fait, lui, des miracles.... Le moins que l'on puisse dire, devant Sonhos de Peixe, c'est que Mikhanovsky a fait son chemin. Et surtout qu'il a choisi la bonne voie. Sans grumeaux, son cinéma mélange le réel le plus documentaire avec la dramaturgie la plus fictionnelle. Ouvert à tout ce que les habitants et les lieux de Baia Fromosa, baignés de soleil et salés par l'océan, lui ont apporté, il a remplacé, ça se sent, des pages entières de dialogues par des séquences métaphoriques, presque oniriques, qui en disent davantage que les mots. Cette magnifique séquence, par exemple, où Jusce porte Ana sur son dos, sur des kilomètres de plage, afin qu'elle ne rate pas le début de sa telenovela préférée: cette seule séquence, parmi d'autres, porte toutes les promesses d'un grand cinéaste.

Fishermen pushing a boat in the water introduces the film´s key leitmotif - effort: it is through the efforts of Jusce, a young fisherman , both at work and in love (his l’amour fou extracting the greatest effort of all) that we tell a bigger story of one man’s struggle that goes so far that the sense of one’s acts is no longer discernible. Jusce’s daily routine is diving 30-40 meters deep for lobster, the underwater world being both an escape and the trap of his daily routine. The otherworldly quality of the underwater is deceptively tranquil: the illegal practice of deepsea
diving for lobster is walking the thin line between life and death.

Jusce is carried by the winds of his destiny, the same very winds that some time ago were blowing the sails of his father’s and grandfather’s fishing boats. It is the wind, the sea, the fishermen of the village of Baia Formosa and their work that inspired ‘Sonhos De Peixe’: I tried, to the best of my abilities as a director, to show the beauty and nobility of the work of fishermen by means of delving into their daily routines and rituals. The patient and respectful visual treatment of the specific details of their labor and their relationships was critical in order to convey the dignity and nobility of their profession and their lives.
