The Other Bank - Gagma napiri
Tedo a douze ans. Il vit avec sa mère Keto, qui est encore très jeune, dans un modeste abri des alentours de Tbilissi. Tedo et Keto sont des réfugiés d’Abkhazie. La guerre civile leur a tout pris, même leur espoir d’un bonheur futur au sein d’une famille intact. Tedo n’avait que quatre ans lorsqu’ils ont dû fuir l’Abkhazie. Ils ont laissé sur place le père de Tedo qui souffre du coeur et n’aurait pas pu supporter ce voyage harassant. Le garçon est entretemps apprenti dans un garage, Keto travaille comme vendeuse. Tedo glisse en cachette à sa mère la menue monnaie qu’il gagne pour qu’elle n’ait plus besoin de prodiguer ses gentillesses à des étrangers déplaisants. Le garçon souffre beaucoup de ne pas pouvoir contribuer davantage aux dépenses de la maison et il a aussi du mal à accepter le style de vie de sa mère. Lorsqu’il découvre qu’elle a un amant, c’en est trop. Tedo décide de retourner auprès de son père en Abkhazie. Il y trouvera peut-être la solution à tous ses problèmes. Au cours de son voyage, Tedo fait la connaissance de beaucoup de gens et il doit aussi supporter pas mal de déboires. Il n’est pas le bienvenu partout. Mais lorsque son voyage se termine, il s’est enrichi d’une nouvelle prise de conscience. Il sait par exemple que ce n’est pas toujours mieux ailleurs que là où l’on est.
