Christopher Papakaliatis
Christopher Papakaliatis was born in Athens and grew up there. At the age of 16 he was first chosen for a TV show in one of the biggest Greek private television stations. After various roles in successful tv series he wrote his first script for TV at the age of 23 called Our Life Is A Path. The series was well received both by the audience and the film critics. In the following series he acted each time simultaneously as script writer and actor, amongst others in Close Your Eyes, one of th emost successful Greek television shows.
In 2012 he acted next to Catherine Deneuve and Sebastian Koch in the feature film God Loves Caviar by Iannis Smaragdis. That same year, he realised his first feature movie What If, and he was at the same time script writer, director and main actor. What If is about a love story set in Athens during the European economic crisis and was one of the most successfilm movies in Greek cinemas. In 2013, Christopher Papakaliatis wrote his next feature film Worlds Apart. Due to the crisis the film release was postponed several times. It was finally released in December 2015. With more than 700'000 viewers in Greece only it was more successful than any US production at that time.
Worlds Apart (2015)
Set in modern day Greece, ”Worlds Apart” is comprised of three separate narratives each following a love story between a foreigner and a Greek. Each story represents a different generation falling in love during a time of socioeconomic turmoil that dominates Southern Europe as a whole,only to connect as a single story in the end.
